Drones strike Russia's Kstovo as fire erupts near major oil refinery

Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region came under a drone attack overnight on August 26. According to preliminary reports, one of the oil refineries caught fire as a result of the strikes, OSINT sources report.
Judging by posts on social media, the attack on Kstovo began at around 3:40 a.m. Kyiv time. Russians reported numerous explosions and a large fire in the area of the local oil refinery. Footage showing a fire near the facility soon appeared online.

A number of sources report that the facility in question is LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez, one of Russia's largest oil refineries. The plant has a design capacity of about 17 million tonnes of oil per year. It produces motor gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products.
OSINT channels also note that the Kstovo refinery is important for supplying fuel to the Russian economy and military, as its products, including aviation and diesel fuel, are used to meet the needs of the Russian military.
Given the scale of production, damage to the plant would place additional pressure on Russia's fuel system.
Meanwhile, local authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
Other attacks
As of August 14, Ukraine had attacked nearly a third of the largest oil refineries in Russia with drones.
On August 21, the Perm oil refinery temporarily suspended operations. The shutdown followed Ukrainian drone strikes that caused a fire and damaged processing units.
