On the night of March 4, unknown drones attacked the oil refinery in Syzran, Samara region. Following the explosions in the area, a fire broke out, according to Russian sources and Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).

Publications with complaints from Russians about the explosions began to appear around 01:00 Kyiv time. After that, as reported by the Ostorozhno Novosti, a fire broke out in the area of the refinery, and the first footage appeared online. The official authorities have not commented on the information yet.

At the same time, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), confirmed the attack and reminded that in February, the Syzran oil refinery had already halted operations after an attack. He also pointed out the particularities of this refinery.

"It has a refining capacity of 8.9 million tons of oil per year, making it one of the medium-sized refineries in Russia. Its products include fuel, aviation kerosene, and bitumen. In 2015, the plant fully switched to producing Euro-5 standard products. It processes oil from Western Siberia and the Samara region," wrote Kovalenko.

He also added that a refinery of this level plays an important role for the Russian army in fuel supply and is also part of the logistics for Russian troops.

Syzran refinery wasn't the only target

In addition to the refinery in Syzran, on the evening of March 3, a fuel depot near Rostov was allegedly attacked by drones. Russians reported a fire at the site in the Chortkiv district, and there were videos showing light from the fire. The region's governor also confirmed hearing explosions, followed by reports of a blaze at one of the facilities.
