On the evening of September 4, a strike hit a key oil depot in the temporarily occupied city of Luhansk, which supplies fuel to Russian forces, according to Russian media.

Local channels said that a drone strike alert was declared in the city. Soon after, multiple explosions were heard and a large fire broke out in the area of the oil depot. Residents confirmed the depot had been hit in their comments.

According to monitoring channels, the depot targeted in the strike supplies fuel to Russia’s 41st and 20th Combined Arms Armies. Luhansk has also been facing fuel shortages after Ukraine attacked Russian oil refineries.

The ATESH partisan movement said it helped carry out the strike on the oil depot.

"ATESH and the secret organization of Ukrainians helped strike the oil depot in Luhansk… Our agents conducted reconnaissance of this facility in August, and finally it has paid off," the statement said.

Strikes on Russian refineries

Ukraine’s Defense Forces regularly target enemy refineries that supply oil products to the Russian army. Last night, unidentified drones attacked a refinery in Krasnodar, causing a fire after a series of explosions.

On the night of August 28, drones also attacked the Kuybyshev refinery in Samara. That same day, a successful strike caused a fire at the Afipsky refinery in the Krasnodar region.

Earlier, on August 15, explosions rocked Syzran in Russia’s Samara region, where locals reported a drone attack on a refinery.

In the first two weeks of August, drone strikes reduced Russia’s oil refining capacity by 21%.
