A drone fell and exploded on Moldovan territory overnight on October 11, although the country’s national air surveillance systems did not detect any unauthorized border crossing, NewsMaker reports.
According to law enforcement, the drone fell and exploded in a forest on the outskirts of the village of Jămăna in the Anenii Noi District.
Police received a report about the drone at around 10:20 p.m. local time, after which military and bomb disposal teams were dispatched to the scene.
The crash site was cordoned off, and specialists are examining the object and establishing the circumstances of the incident.
Law enforcement officials also urged the public not to approach or touch suspicious fragments or objects and to stay away from the area until inspections are complete.
Meanwhile, the national air surveillance systems did not detect any unauthorized border crossing.
Russian drones in Moldova
On the morning of October 3, Moldova’s Defense Ministry reported that three missiles and two drones had exploded on the country’s territory. Another object flew through Moldovan airspace toward Palanca a minute later.
Drone debris was found in four districts of Moldova that day. Police recorded a total of five separate incidents involving aircraft crashes.
In one case, an explosion damaged the windows of a building. In addition, dry grass caught fire after a drone fell.
Earlier, on September 30, a drone crossed into Moldovan airspace, fell, and exploded near the village of Hîrbovăț and the city of Bender.
