Drone and missile barrage hits Ukraine overnight, air defenses intercept targets

On the night of June 28, Russia attacked Ukraine with anti-ship and ballistic missiles, as well as 142 strike drones. Air defense forces managed to intercept the majority of enemy targets, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the night, the enemy attacked Ukraine with:
- two anti-ship Tsirkon/Oniks missiles from the Kursk region;
- six ballistic Iskander-M/S-400 missiles from the Bryansk region;
- 142 strike drones of the Shahed type (including jet-powered), Gerbera, Italmas, and decoy drones of the Parodiya type from directions including Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data as of 08:30, air defenses shot down or suppressed:
- one anti-ship Tsirkon/Oniks missile;
- six ballistic Iskander-M/S-400 missiles;
- 125 enemy drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas.
Hits of one missile and 14 strike drones were recorded at 11 locations, along with debris from downed targets falling at 13 locations.
"The attack is ongoing, several enemy drones are still in the airspace. Follow safety rules!" the Air Force warned.
Attack on Kyiv
As a reminder, during the night of June 28, Russian forces launched several ballistic missiles toward Kyiv, with explosions heard in the capital.
In the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, fires broke out at several locations as a result of the attack. One person was injured.
Another fire occurred near a residential building, while an auto repair shop also caught fire at another location. A non-residential building was also burning. Injuries were reported.
