US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order authorizing federal agencies to pursue individuals who commit acts of desecration against the American flag, according to the White House website.

The document states that the US flag is the most sacred and cherished symbol of the United States of America, as well as of American freedom, identity, and strength, and that desecration of the flag is exceptionally offensive and provocative.

Trump’s order emphasizes that burning the flag could incite violence and unrest.

Trump added that flag burning has also been used by groups of foreign nationals as a deliberate act of intimidation and threat of violence against Americans because of their citizenship and place of birth.

The president said that those who desecrate the nation’s symbol should face the fullest possible consequences.

Specifically, Trump’s order stipulates that visas, residency permits, naturalization, and other privileges could be revoked for foreign nationals involved in such acts.

Separately, the US administration recently suspended work on the Revolution Wind offshore wind project near the coast of Rhode Island, citing national security concerns.

Additionally, Trump previously referred to Ukraine as a buffer zone between Europe and Russia.
