US President Donald Trump sees the United Nations as his “successor” in handling the end of global wars in the future, reports Politico.
“When I’m no longer around to settle wars, the U.N. can. It has tremendous potential. Tremendous,” Trump said.
The American leader also described the UN as an indispensable institution, especially given that his own role on the world stage is supposedly coming to an end.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate. The U.N. is not leaving New York, and it’s not leaving the United States,” added the US president.

At the end of December, Trump accused the UN of inaction on global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.
Trump criticized the UN, saying the organization "has been of very little assistance or help" in solving various global conflicts, "including the disaster currently going on between Russia and Ukraine."
Earlier reports also noted that the UN is on the brink of a financial crisis, with the organization’s budget expected to be depleted by mid-year. The main source of instability is unpaid member contributions from the US.
The problem stems from the US refusing to pay mandatory dues, as the country traditionally covers around 22% of the UN budget. As of the end of January, the US reportedly owed the UN approximately $1.4 billion. Instead of paying regular dues, the US administration has focused on funding select initiatives.
