Donald Trump calls on Putin to end war and sign deal

US President Donald Trump stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to demonstrate a commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, according to CNN.
"I want him to stop shooting, sit down, and sign a deal. We have the confines of a deal, I believe, and I want him to sign it and be done with it and just go back to life," Trump told reporters as he was leaving New Jersey.
He also stated that he was disappointed by Russia's recent missile strikes on Kyiv and could not say for certain whether Putin is genuinely committed to ending the war.
Trump suggests that Putin is deceiving him
On Thursday, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, resulting in casualties, including deaths, in the capital.
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were in the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis. Before the ceremony, the two leaders held a face-to-face meeting.
Soon after, Trump took to social media, stating that Russia had no reason to carry out missile strikes on Kyiv. He also suggested that Putin might be misleading him and may not want to end the war. In the same post, Trump speculated that a different approach might be necessary when dealing with the Russian President, specifically through sanctions.
Additionally, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that this week would be crucial in determining whether a peace agreement for Ukraine could be reached.
