US President Donald Trump may meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping this fall. The meeting may take place in one of two countries, according to the South China Morning Post and Reuters.

According to the agency, Trump may travel to China before going to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which will take place from October 30 to November 1.

Alternatively, a meeting with the Chinese leader could take place on the sidelines of the aforementioned summit, which will be held in South Korea.

Sources believe that APEC is the best opportunity for a face-to-face meeting between the leaders this year. South Korean media report that Xi Jinping plans to attend the summit, but Trump's participation has not yet been confirmed.

The last summit between the two countries took place on July 11. Then, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Malaysia and, according to them, had a productive and positive meeting on how trade negotiations should be conducted.

Rubio noted at the time that Trump had been invited to China to meet with Xi and said that both leaders want to see that happen.

In addition, on Friday, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said that China wants to return its trade ties with the United States to a stable basis and that recent talks in Europe showed that a tariff war is not necessary.

US-China trade deal

Reuters notes that the United States and China are trying to agree on an end to an escalation of mutual tariffs that has disrupted global trade and supply chains.

In particular, in June, the two countries signed a temporary trade truce. However, it is under threat as the deadline for a long-term agreement is August 12.

Meeting of three

The Times recently published an article stating that Xi Jinping wants to organize a trilateral meeting between him, Trump, and Russia's Vladimir Putin.

Later, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow knew nothing about Putin's preparations for a meeting in this format.
