Every time you want to sleep a little longer after the alarm goes off, your body pays a price. Sleep during that time does not restore energy but only increases fatigue and stress, HuffPost reports.
Don’t stay in bed after the alarm goes off
Neuroscientist and sleep expert Chelsie Rohrscheib said that people often stay in bed after the alarm rings, scrolling on their phones for 15 minutes before getting up.
"When I wake up, I get out of bed immediately and go somewhere else in my house," she said.
This helps the brain maintain the association that the bedroom is only a place for rest, which promotes better sleep.
It is also important not to remain in a dark bedroom. Light effectively switches off the brain’s production of melatonin and signals to the body that the day has begun.
A regular wake-up time helps the biological clock regulate physiological functions, not just sleep. Sleeping much longer on weekends can lead to difficulty concentrating, fatigue, irritability, and headaches. This can ruin your day.
Following a consistent sleep schedule, going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, is important for ensuring good and high-quality nighttime sleep.
What is better to do in the morning
One of the first things you should do in the morning, usually within 30 minutes of waking up, is expose yourself to natural sunlight by going outside or sitting near a window.
Light during the day is very important for maintaining the circadian rhythm. A lack of sunlight can reduce sleep quality, contribute to insomnia, and negatively affect mood.
In addition, physical exercise is a great way to signal to the brain that the day has begun. It does not have to be particularly intense. You can simply walk your dog or take a short walk.
