Dnipro city faces a national-level emergency following a massive enemy attack. The city works to restore the power supply and restart boiler houses that were left without electricity, according to Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.

Critical infrastructure

The mayor states that Dnipro is technically in one of the most difficult situations among the affected regions. From the night of January 7 into January 8, municipal services have been working on restoration in coordination with the regional military administration and ministries.

  • Healthcare: Electricity in hospitals is gradually being restored. Healthcare facilities are currently on alternative power sources and have sufficient reserves.
  • Water utility: The city sewage system has been restored. The water supply situation is gradually stabilizing in the right-bank part of the city.
  • Left bank: Power is supplied from alternative sources.

Heating problems

Heat supply remains the biggest challenge. Due to yesterday's blackout, all city boiler houses were completely left without power. Utility workers and energy specialists restore them as quickly as possible.

The mayor called residents to check official sources for information on public transport schedules, the operation of kindergartens and schools, and "Points of Resilience" locations.

On January 7 and 8, Russian forces carried out massive attacks on energy infrastructure in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Following the attack, both regions experienced large-scale power outages. Due to the critical situation, "Points of Resilience" were established in cities, and local residents were urged to stock up on water.

In Dnipro city, all healthcare facilities are currently supplied with electricity via generators. Due to the challenging situation in the city, school holidays were extended by two additional days.

In Zaporizhzhia, the energy system remains under strain, and a power deficit persists despite restoration efforts. In addition, Kryvyi Rih city was under an unprecedented combined attack, with Russian forces striking several locations at the same time.
