Russia attacked Ukraine and wants to expand its aggression. Therefore, the discourse on negotiations should be shifted towards Moscow, according to a briefing by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi.

"Let's all together shift this discourse (on negotiations - ed.). Let Putin (Russian President Vladimir Putin - ed.) and Russia think about when they sit down at the negotiating table. It is Putin and Russia who attacked Ukraine. Ukraine is defending itself from aggression. Ukraine faces an existential question of state survival and the survival of our people," emphasized Tykhyi.

He urged the international community, media, and experts to direct their questions about negotiations to the Kremlin. And if Russia does not want to reach a peace agreement, pressure must be intensified, and the cost of aggression must be raised to make Russia want peace.

According to Tykhyi, Moscow currently has the desire to expand its aggression.

"We are conveying a simple position to our partners: for Russia to have the desire to seek real peace, pressure on them must be increased," he added.

Blinken's statement

Just yesterday, December 19, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Ukraine needs to make an extremely important decision – whether to continue fighting or begin peace negotiations.

At the same time, the Secretary of State assured that the administration of US President Joe Biden wants to ensure that, in the case of negotiations, Ukraine will have the best position for reaching a strong agreement.
