Disarmament treaties with Russia should reappear in future - Scholz
Relations between the West and Russia are likely to be defined by containment policies soon, but in the long term, disarmament treaties with Russia should re-emerge, according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"Everything we are doing should lead to a time when discussions on arms control between the world's largest states will be possible again," he said.
The Chancellor added, however, that this time might seem distant now.
Scholz said that Russia has withdrawn from all disarmament agreements, and Germany must respond to this.
"Therefore, we must be strong enough that no one dares to attack us," he declared.
Russia-NATO war concerns
Both in Ukraine and some Western countries, the likelihood of a war between Russia and NATO is being considered. Ukraine believes that Poland or the Baltic countries could be the Kremlin's next targets.
Estonian intelligence suggests that Russia is already preparing for the next military conflict, which could start within the next decade.
In Germany, the possibility of a Russian attack on NATO as early as 2029 is not being ruled out.
