Director General of IAEA will soon visit Ukraine - Minister of Energy
Ukraine's Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, announced that the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, will soon visit Ukraine. Minister Halushchenko made this statement during a national telethon broadcast.
Halushchenko stated that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is deteriorating progressively.
"The degradation of equipment continues. The Russians allowed experts into the reactors on the third attempt, but it does not change the overall picture," reported the Minister of Energy.
According to the minister, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, will soon visit Ukraine.
"Soon, Grossi will come to Ukraine. Perhaps, he will visit the Zaporizhzhia NPP before that. Currently, the attention of the whole world is focused on this. The presence of Russians there is a constant threat," stated Halushchenko.
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP)
Zaporizhzhia NPP has been under Russian occupation since March 4, 2022. The station has been consistently shelled by the Russian military, thereby violating nuclear safety protocols.
Earlier, it was reported that on January 18, IAEA experts once again visited ZNPP and discovered mines around the perimeter of the facility.
It was also noted that the number of Russian military personnel at Zaporizhzhia NPP and in Energodar had decreased. Additionally, Russian forces allowed employees of Rosatom, who illegally gained access to classified information. In response, the United States threatened Russia with nuclear sanctions.
