Difficult period awaits Ukraine, Europe must take responsibility for its own security - Estonia
Ukraine faces a challenging period in the war. Europe will have to take responsibility for its own security, states the Chancellor of the Ministry of Defense of Estonia, Kusti Salm.
In his opinion, a difficult period will persist until Western assistance enables Ukraine to achieve balance in the war.
Salm hopes that in the coming months, Europe will allocate funds to purchase long-range weapons for Ukraine.
"I believe this day will come in the next few months. It will happen when the situation on the Ukrainian front becomes even more difficult, and signals across the ocean become even stranger. That will be the moment when Europe will truly have to take responsibility for its own security," the Estonian official believes.
Idea of NATO troops deployment in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out the possibility of NATO deploying troops to assist Ukraine. The main problem, he said, is the current lack of consensus on this issue.
Several NATO countries have already opposed this idea, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Spain, and Italy.
However, there are countries willing to consider such a possibility, such as Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
Canada, also a NATO member, stated that it is ready to send troops to Ukraine, but only for training Ukrainian defenders away from the front lines.
