Denmark signals willingness to allow US military presence expansion in Greenland

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that her country could allow the United States to increase its military presence in Greenland, Bloomberg reports.
Currently, there is only one American military base in Greenland, tasked with detecting missile threats. However, Frederiksen noted that Washington could "have more possibilities" for military activities on the island.
"I totally agree with the Americans that the High North, the Arctic region is becoming more and more important when we are talking about defense and security and deterrence. And it is possible to find a way to ensure stronger footprints in Greenland,” she said.
Frederiksen also pointed out that both Denmark and NATO are prepared to scale up operations in the region.
"So if this is about securing our part of the world, we can find a way forward," Frederiksen emphasized, reiterating that Greenland is part of Denmark and is "not for sale."
Trump's position on Greenland
US President Donald Trump has reiterated his desire to purchase Greenland. This intention was confirmed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that Trump is seriously considering the purchase of Greenland, which is currently part of Denmark, and that this is a priority for him.
NATO plans to offer President Trump a compromise on Greenland. The Alliance hopes this will help ease tensions surrounding the island's discussions.
