Thus, the long-awaited training of Ukrainian pilots will begin by the end of summer.
Supplying F-16 jets to Ukraine
Ukrainian officials and military have been requesting Western allies for quite some time to initiate the supply of modern fighter jets. These are crucial for Ukraine to defend against constant Russian shelling and to compete with Russian aviation.
A few months ago, a group of Western states decided to support the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16s after the initiative was approved by U.S. President Joe Biden. Later, an aviation coalition was formed, within it the training on fighter jets is set to commence in Romania and Denmark. According to prognoses, the training will last from 6 to 8 months.
On August 17, the United States approved the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands.
Today, National Security Advisor to the U.S. President, Jake Sullivan, announced that the United States will provide Ukrainian pilots with American F-16 fighter jets after the end of the training.
