On Monday, April 6, a Democratic congresswoman in the House of Representatives announced that she would introduce a resolution to impeach Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth for his actions in the US war against Iran, according to Axios.
According to Yassamin Ansari (Democrat from Arizona), she will introduce a resolution next week seeking Hegseth's removal for repeated violation of his oath and duty to the Constitution.
"Hegseth's reckless endangerment of U.S. servicemembers and repeated war crimes ... are grounds for impeachment and removal from office," she said.
The Democratic congresswoman also called on the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office over his insane statements about the war.
"The 25th Amendment exists for a reason; his Cabinet should use it. The fate of U.S. troops, the Iranian people, and the very foundation of our global system are at stake," Ansari added.
However, Axios notes that impeachment requires two-thirds of the votes in the Senate. But given that both chambers are under Republican control, Ansari's impeachment attempt is extremely unlikely.
There is also no realistic chance that the Cabinet, which is loyal to Trump, would invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.
Axios added that Ansari is not the first Democratic Party member to propose impeaching Hegseth.
War against Iran
In the first days of the US and Israeli operation against Iran, the Pentagon reported the destruction of 90% of Iran's missile potential and the elimination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
However, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth was caught off guard by the scale of Iran's retaliatory strikes, as he had expected the adversary to show restraint.
Incidentally, a week ago, Hegseth said that the coming days of the war with Iran would be decisive. He claimed that Tehran understands this and has almost no military capabilities to change the situation.
