On July 12, the Russians launched a combined strike on Chernivtsi using missiles and kamikaze drones. The number of casualties from the attack has risen to four, Ruslan Zaparaniuk, Head of the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, reports.

"With great sorrow, I must report that today, a severely wounded resident of Chernivtsi - 44-year-old Ilona Kapelnytska - died in the hospital. She had been in a coma since the enemy strike on July 12 that hit a multi-story residential building," noted Zaparaniuk.

According to the Head of the Regional Military Administration, the deceased had volunteered to defend Ukraine at the front back in 2015, despite having no military experience. After demobilization, she became actively involved in volunteer work and supported the Armed Forces of Ukraine until her last day.

During the night of July 12, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones and cruise missiles. Chernivtsi was one of the epicenters of the strike - according to official reports, the region was hit by four Shahed drones and one missile.

In Chernivtsi, debris from enemy weapons caused massive fires and destroyed administrative buildings, residential homes, shops, and vehicles. The deaths of two people, a 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, were confirmed.

Later, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) showed images of the city in the aftermath of the strike. Fires broke out in several locations, and there were confirmed casualties. Administrative buildings, residential structures, two non-functional facilities, and vehicles were damaged in the shelling.

In the Storozhynets community of the region, damage to homes and cars was also recorded, but fortunately, no casualties were reported there.
