On the morning of September 3, Russian forces struck Poltava using ballistic missiles.

The Russians hit an educational institution and a nearby hospital, and one of the buildings of the Institute of Communications also suffered partial destruction. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that there was little time between the air raid warning and the strike, which resulted in people being caught under fire while evacuating to bomb shelters.
