The number of people injured in a Russian guided bomb attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy has risen to 17, while four people, including a child, were killed, reports Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov.

According to Hryhorov, Russian forces carried out another "cynical" attack on the city.

Two guided aerial bombs struck a crowded area where civilians were present, and cars and public transportation were passing through. One of the bombs hit near a road and a public transit stop.

Another strike targeted a critical infrastructure facility. The official said Russian troops continue trying to destroy the essential infrastructure in the city.

"The enemy clearly understood that civilians would be caught in the attack," Hryhorov said.

Casualties and injuries

Four people, including a child, were killed in the attack. The number of injured has risen to 17, with three victims in critical condition. Additional wounded residents continue to seek medical treatment.

The blast waves damaged apartment buildings near the impact sites, shattering hundreds of windows and balcony frames.

Cleanup and recovery efforts will begin as soon as the security situation allows. Hryhorov assured residents that all those affected would receive the assistance they need.

As previously reported, on July 3, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Sumy using a large number of drones and guided aerial bombs.

That assault struck one of the city's central streets, damaging a residential high-rise, a store, and a roadway.

Three people were killed, and 27 others were injured, including a 13-year-old child who was left in critical condition.

Earlier this week, following a meeting in the region, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said the security situation in the Sumy region has deteriorated significantly since June. According to him, Russia has sharply increased its use of Molniya drones, fiber-optic FPV drones, strike drones, and guided aerial bombs.
