Deadliest month since October 2022: Ukraine's civilian losses in July
July 2024 has become the deadliest month since October 2022 for civilian casualties due to the war in Ukraine, according to a UN report.
"At least 219 civilians were killed and 1,018 injured in Ukraine in July, which makes it the deadliest month for civilians since October 2022. The high number of casualties in July continues a trend of increasing civilian casualties since March 2024," the report states.
The report also mentions the massive attack on Ukraine on July 8, during which at least 43 civilians, including 5 children, were killed, and 147 people, including 7 children, were injured in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih (Dnipro region), and Kyiv region.
The document adds that from June to July, the most intense Russian offensive actions shifted from the northern part of Kharkiv region to Donetsk.
"As a result, verified civilian casualties in Donetsk region increased from 125 civilians killed or injured in May to 224 in June and 269 in July 2024," the UN report statistics show.
Russian strikes on Ukraine
On July 8, Russian forces carried out a massive attack on Ukraine. In Kyiv alone, 33 people were killed as a result of the attack, including a strike on the children's hospital Okhmatdyt.
As RBC-Ukraine reported, for the first time in a long while, the attacks by Russia on Ukraine on July 8 occurred during the day, were wave-like, and resulted in casualties not only in Kyiv but also in Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Donetsk region.
During the attack, Russia launched 38 missiles of various types at Ukraine, 30 of which were intercepted by air defense. Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down one Kinzhal missile and three Iskander missiles.
