Czech ammo-for-Ukraine initiative faces new threat, president says

Czechia cannot guarantee the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine after the parliamentary elections scheduled for October this year, reports the BBC.
"Now all my efforts are focused on maintaining a unified approach to security and defense issues, including our policy towards Ukraine. Because I believe that supporting Ukraine is an integral part of our own security," Pavel said.
He also did not rule out that the elections would lead to a change of government and made it clear that the priorities of the new government may change, but the key vectors are still difficult to assess.
Czechia's support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Last year, Czech President Petr Pavel said that his country had located 800,000 shells that could be purchased for Ukraine. He clarified that the shells could be delivered within a few weeks, but funding was needed.
Already in June 2024, Czechia announced that the first batch of artillery shells purchased on its initiative had arrived in Ukraine. Czechia will be able to provide Ukraine with the same amount of ammunition this year as in 2024.
Czech Defense Minister Jana Černohová said that the Czech initiative to supply ammunition continues. So far, Czechia has invested CZK 1 billion in this initiative.
