Cyber attack on Kyivstar: Probably largest since war's start
The recent cyber attack on "Kyivstar", a Ukrainian telecommunication company, was likely one of the most significant disruptive cyber attacks on Ukrainian networks since the start of the full-scale war, reports British intelligence.
As per intelligence reports, on December 12, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, "Kyivstar," fell victim to a cyber attack. The impact of the hackers' mischief lasted at least two days, affecting the company's mobile and data transmission services. The cyber attack disrupted the signal and internet access for users of the mobile operator. The company assures that no personal data was compromised during the attack.
Furthermore, the cyber attack disrupted the operation of air alarm sirens, some banks, ATMs, and point-of-sale terminals. Meanwhile, Monobank experienced a DDoS attack, leading to disruptions in access to the bank's website.
"With Ukraine's government resources and emergency services affected, this incident is likely one of the highest-impact disruptive cyber attacks on Ukrainian networks since the start of the full-scale invasion," summarizes the intelligence report.
Cyber attack on "Kyivstar"
A massive disruption in the operations of the telecommunications company "Kyivstar" occurred on December 12. Hackers officially targeted the network, leading to the initiation of a case under eight articles. During the outage, subscribers complained about a lack of connectivity, issues with the operator's website, and the mobile application. Internet services were also unavailable.
Currently, the company is gradually restoring operations. As of today, December 16, "Kyivstar" has restored mobile internet and over 90% of mobile communication base stations.
