US President Donald Trump is open to a possible meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, according to the BBC.

Leavitt was asked to comment on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's proposal for a meeting involving himself, Zelenskyy, Putin, and Trump.

"The president said he is open to it if it comes to that, but he wants both leaders and both sides to come to the negotiating table together," the press secretary responded.

Trump's potential participation

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he was ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul on May 15.

Following that, US President Donald Trump said he was considering participating in high-level talks between Ukraine and Russia if such negotiations were to take place.

However, once it became clear that Putin was unwilling to travel to Istanbul, Trump also declined to join the talks.

During the most recent negotiations with the Russian delegation, Ukraine proposed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin by the end of June. It remains unclear whether Russia will agree to such a step.
