US President Donald Trump may fly to Istanbul to attend a possible meeting between Ukraine and Russia. It is scheduled for May 15, the American leader said during a conversation with journalists.

"I think you may have a good result out of the meeting on Thursday with Russia and Ukraine. And I believe the two leaders are going to be there. I was thinking about flying over," he said.

The US President added that he still doesn't know where he will be on Thursday, and he has many meetings scheduled. But "things can happen."

Trump assured that the United States is making every effort to understand whether it is possible to put an end to the bloody slaughter between Ukraine and Russia.

By the way, Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE from May 13 to 16.

Meeting in Istanbul

The meeting with Ukraine in Istanbul was initiated by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He proposed that it take place on Thursday, May 15.

Following this proposal, US President Donald Trump stated that he was insisting that Ukraine agree to participate in negotiations with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy almost immediately announced that he personally plans to travel to Istanbul on May 15 to hold talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

For his part, Putin has yet to give a clear response on whether he is willing to engage in such a dialogue with Zelenskyy.
