Coalition of the Willing drafting proposal on military contingent to Ukraine, Macron says

At a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, French President Emmanuel Macron said the group is working with partners every day on a proposal to deploy a military contingent to Ukraine, reports RBC-Ukraine correspondent.
According to Macron, support for Ukraine's military will continue. A strong army, he said, remains the best guarantee of security. For this reason, the French leader added, allies must ensure proper funding for military aid to Ukraine.
"Lasting peace requires truly international security guarantees. That is why we are strengthening our coalition and preparing a proposal to form a contingent in line with the proposals made in March. This work with partners continues on a daily basis," he emphasized.
Macron added that a potential 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia must be used to fulfill all relevant conditions to support such a peace.
"And we are absolutely ready for this. We have made this commitment," the French president stated.
Coalition of the Willing and military contingent for Ukraine
The Coalition of the Willing initiative to potentially send troops to Ukraine emerged amid growing uncertainty over US support and efforts by several European countries to bolster security guarantees for Ukraine. The idea was first proposed by the United Kingdom and France.
As of April 2025, at least six countries – the United Kingdom, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and one unnamed state – have expressed readiness to send their forces to Ukraine as part of the Coalition of the Willing in the event of a ceasefire.
The initiative remains under development. However, in early May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned two possible options for deploying a military contingent in the country.
