Coach names products that are cheaper and healthier than meat
There is a common belief that organ meats have no nutritional value. However, while their protein content is lower compared to regular meat, their micronutrient content is higher, according to Ukrainian coach Yurii Popko.
What organ meats include
There is a belief that organ meats are harmful because they can accumulate dangerous substances during the feeding process of animals and poultry, and that they are second-rate products.
Mainly, organ meats include liver, heart, gizzards, tongue, and brain.
If the producer feeds livestock and poultry with quality feed and does not saturate them with antibiotics, then there is nothing wrong with organ meats.
Also, if you don't eat organ meats every day in large quantities, there won't be any harm.
The coach explained that people do more harm to their health with large amounts of refined products. Cholesterol is not harmful if its level in the body does not exceed the norm. Only 10-15% of the diet affects the cholesterol level in the body.
"If you are healthy and don't eat organ meats every day, they are a great alternative to meat. They also allow you to diversify your diet with new delicious dishes," the expert added.
Caloric content of organ meats
Organ meats contain the following number of calories:
- Chicken liver: 120 kcal per 100 g, with 20 g of protein and 4 g of fat
- Beef liver: 130 kcal per 100 g, with 19 g of protein and 4 g of fat
- Chicken hearts: 160 kcal per 100 g, with 15 g of protein and 10 g of fat
- Chicken gizzards: 110 kcal per 100 g, with 18 g of protein and 4 g of fat
Organ meats such as pork and beef brains or tongue contain 17-22 g of protein per 100 g of raw product. However, they are quite fatty, with 19 g of fat per 100 g. Therefore, those watching their figure should choose protein products with no more than 5% fat.
For weight loss, the norm is 1.5 g of protein per kilogram of current weight and 0.7 g of fat per kilogram.
It is worth noting that organ meats spoil much faster than regular meat, so freshness is of paramount importance when purchasing them.
The assertion that organ meats contain "accumulated metabolic products" is a myth. Washed organ meats contain nothing harmful. The same applies to heavy metals.
The most significant and popular organ meat is the liver. It is a valuable, easily digestible protein source, rich in B vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, organic phosphorus, and biologically available iron. It is an important product in diets for dermatological diseases and anemia.
