Trump is ready to participate in providing security guarantees to Ukraine, Zelenskyy says

US President Donald Trump supports reliable security guarantees for Ukraine. He is ready to participate in providing such guarantees, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"There must be truly reliable security guarantees. Today, by the way, President Trump spoke about supporting this and about America’s readiness to participate," Zelenskyy said.
Commenting on the issue of security guarantees, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that Ukraine must have a strong army. However, he said that the details of the guarantees were not discussed during today’s video conference.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and other senior American officials repeatedly stated that Europe should be responsible for providing security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, Washington does not want to take part in this process.
In particular, in February, then-US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that security guarantees are "on the Europeans."
At the same time, the US leader stated that he did not want to discuss security guarantees until a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia begins.
Against this backdrop, European countries created a Coalition of the Willing. They are discussing the possibility of sending a contingent to Ukraine that would deter Russia from starting a new war.
