Cleaning agents that should not be used: Expert's list
Using certain cleaning products can cause problems. In particular, furniture and appliances can be damaged while cleaning the house, according to Real simple website.
Polishing furniture
Robin Murphy, a cleaning company owner, says there is no reason to buy furniture polish.
"These days, most wood furniture has a protective coating over the bare wood. Therefore, the surface can easily be dusted or wiped clean with a damp cloth," the expert noted.
Some polishes, oils, and waxes are completely unnecessary and leave residues that can damage the surface.
Oven cleaner
Unless your oven is decades old or does not have a self-cleaning feature, there is no good reason to keep an oven cleaner at hand.
It is better to make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply the paste to dirty areas of the oven and let it sit for five to ten minutes, then scrub with a sponge or brush.
Glass cleaner
Everyone likes it when windows shine. However, you don't need a glass cleaner to get this effect.
"I prefer using an eco-friendly glass cleaner. A simple mixture of vinegar and water is a viable alternative for achieving comparable results," the expert noted.
For minor blemishes, such as fingerprints or minor water splashes on bathroom mirrors, a small amount of plain water may be enough.
Disposable wipes
Disposable wipes are great for travel. Since they are disposable, wipes are not the best choice for the environment.
Regular cleaning spray and a microfiber cloth may be a better alternative.
Rules for using cleaning agents
Cleaning agents should be stored in a place inaccessible to children - on high shelves or in a locked cabinet.
Immediately after use, the cleaning agent should be closed and put away to avoid inhaling or swallowing toxins, as well as to prevent burns.
Cleaning agents should not be mixed, especially acids and bleaches, as such mixtures produce toxic, i.e., dangerous gases.
Cleaning agents should be stored in closed, original packaging.
It is strictly forbidden to store cleaning agents next to food products and glasses for drinking.
Moreover, carefully read the instructions on the package before use, and strictly follow them to avoid poisoning in both adults and children.
