Ukrainian troops have captured Chinese citizens during fighting in the Donetsk region. The soldiers managed to seize their documents and identify the individuals, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever.

The Chinese citizens were captured near the settlements of Tarasivka and Bilohorivka, where Ukrainian troops engaged in combat with six Chinese servicemen; two of them were taken prisoner.

“There are documents, passports, and even credit cards – these are Chinese citizens. I believe this is a very important element. I think the United States needs to pay more attention to what is happening today,” the president explained.

He added that this event confirms that another country is militarily supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“It follows Iran and the militaries of North Korea. However, there are differences. North Koreans fought against us on the Kursk direction, whereas the Chinese are fighting on Ukrainian territory. And I believe this is an important moment that we urgently need to discuss with our partners,” Zelenskyy stated.

According to him, despite Ukraine being a strong country, it cannot fight on multiple fronts against several nations whose interests are at stake on our land. Zelenskyy hopes that after this incident the United States will strengthen its cooperation with Ukraine and engage with the Russian side.

“We are very hopeful that the Chinese side will also respond. I have instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defense to contact our Chinese counterparts so that they can explain these actions,” he said.
