Trump promises tough tariffs against India

The United States will significantly raise tariffs against India as it continues to buy large amounts of oil from Russia. Delhi doesn't care that it finances Russia's war machine, stated US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
According to the American leader, India purchases massive volumes of oil from Russia and then resells it on the global market for a substantial profit.
"They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian war machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the tariff paid by India to the USA," Trump emphasized.
India is the second-largest importer of Russian oil in the world.
Trump’s threats
Last week, US President Donald Trump announced that starting August 1, he would impose 25% tariffs on India.
The American leader explained this move by pointing out that India has consistently purchased most of its military equipment from Russia and remains one of the largest buyers of Russian energy resources.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Staff for policy Stephen Miller emphasized that India is helping finance Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Notably, after August 8, the US President is expected to introduce 100% secondary tariffs against Russia for its refusal to end the war in Ukraine.
