China to keep promoting its vision of ending war in Ukraine - Foreign Ministry
China has announced that it will continue to promote its vision for ending Russia's war against Ukraine. Beijing has promised to support a "political settlement of the crisis," according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wang Yi met with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in St. Petersburg. Among other topics, they discussed Russia's war against Ukraine.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Shoigu reiterated Russia's position on the war and welcomed the so-called peace plans of China and Brazil.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, in turn, reiterated the stance on the political resolution of the war and stated that China will continue to advance its peace initiatives regarding the "Ukrainian crisis" (as Beijing refers to Russia's war against Ukraine).
"China has always maintained an objective and fair position on the Ukrainian issue and will continue to work towards promoting balanced, objective, and rational voices in the international community to achieve greater international consensus and create the necessary conditions for a swift ceasefire and end to the war," the Foreign Ministry's statement reads.
China's stance on war
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, China has claimed a supposedly neutral position regarding the war. However, Beijing continues to strengthen its cooperation with Moscow. Chinese companies, despite Western sanctions, are supplying Russia with dual-use goods that can be used for weapon production.
Additionally, China has presented its so-called peace plan for Ukraine. However, Beijing's peace initiatives have been criticized in Ukraine.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that alternative peace plans for Ukraine are merely political statements.
