China to challenge US tariffs, warns of 'countermeasures'

China plans to challenge the 10% tariff imposed by the US on Chinese goods. Beijing has warned it may respond to Washington with "countermeasures," according to Channel NewsAsia.
The publication cites a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce, which claims that the US tariff imposition seriously violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
China has stated its firm opposition to the new tariffs and vowed to take corresponding "countermeasures."
"China will file a claim with the WTO and take corresponding countermeasures to safeguard its interests," the statement reads.
The Ministry of Commerce of China has called on the US to "correct its wrongful actions, safeguard the hard-won progress in bilateral anti-drug cooperation, and promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations."
Trump's trade tariffs
US President Donald Trump, upon returning to the White House, announced additional tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, China, and EU countries.
On Saturday, February 1, Trump ordered the implementation of a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on Chinese goods, effective from Tuesday. Economists believe this move could trigger a trade war.
In response, Canada imposed a 25% tariff on American goods.
Additionally, Trump has threatened to impose 100% tariffs on BRICS countries if they decide to create their own currency to replace the dollar. More details on this are available in the RBC-Ukraine report.
