China supports Ukraine-Russia talks, but conditions and timing are not ready
China advocates for the initiation of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. However, Beijing believes that the conditions and timing for such talks are not yet ready, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made this statement during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
China believes that ultimately all conflicts should return to the negotiating table. According to Beijing, both Ukraine and Russia have recently sent signals of willingness to negotiate.
"Recently, both Ukraine and Russia have sent signals of willingness to negotiate to varying degrees. Although the conditions and timing are not yet ready, we support all efforts conducive to peace and are willing to continue to play a constructive role in ceasefire and resumption of peace talks," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
China also emphasized its attention to the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and will continue to provide humanitarian material assistance.
China's stance on Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, China has claimed a supposedly neutral position regarding the war in Ukraine. However, during the conflict, Beijing has deepened economic relations with Moscow.
China is accused of continuing to supply Russia with dual-use goods that could be used in weapon production.
Recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited China on a working trip. It is known that he has already met with the Chinese Foreign Minister.
