China continues to respond symmetrically to US actions. Mutual duties have reached 104%, making trade impossible, The New York Times reports.

The Chinese government has announced that it will impose an additional 54% tariff on imports from the United States starting April 10. This corresponds to the additional 54% tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The Chinese government has issued a lengthy condemnation of US trade policy, accusing the United States of years of protectionism and violating the trade agreement concluded by the two sides at the end of President Trump's first term.

The document was published by Beijing's Cabinet Information Office a few hours after Trump raised to 104% additional tariffs on Chinese goods imposed during his second term.

Tariff war

US President Donald Trump's 104% tariffs on Chinese goods came into effect on April 9. The tariffs increased by another 54% after Beijing refused to remove retaliatory duties on American goods by the deadline set by Trump.

China and the United States have been engaged in a cycle of tit-for-tat tariffs since Trump returned to the White House in January. The US President has yet to speak with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, more than two months after his inauguration.

Earlier, China vowed to fight to the end in the tariff war with Trump, calling the US duties blackmail.
