China shifting stance? Trump claims progress on Ukraine peace

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation. They achieved progress on the issue of reaching peace between Russia and Ukraine, according to Trump and China's Xinhua.

Trump said that he had a "very productive call" with the leader of China.
"We made progress on many very important issues, including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal," the American leader specified.
According to him, he and Xi Jinping agreed to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit in South Korea.
The leaders also agreed that Trump would visit China at the beginning of next year, and Xi Jinping would come to the United States at an "appropriate time."
"The call was a very good one, we will be speaking again by phone, appreciate the TikTok approval, and both look forward to meeting at APEC!" the American leader summarized.
What the Chinese media writes
According to Xinhua, Trump and Xi Jinping openly and deeply discussed current China–US relations and issues of mutual interest, as well as outlined strategic guidelines for the development of relations.
Xi Jinping recalled that China and the United States were allies during World War II. According to him, relations between the two countries are of the utmost importance.
The Chinese leader emphasized that the two states can contribute to each other's success and common prosperity, bringing benefits to their peoples and the whole world. According to him, to achieve this goal, both sides must meet each other halfway.
Xi Jinping also advised the US to avoid unilateral trade restrictions so as not to undermine the results of negotiations. He mentioned the issue of TikTok and stressed that the Chinese government respects the decisions of companies and supports their negotiations according to market rules.
The Chinese leader expressed hope that the US would create open, fair, and equal conditions for investment by Chinese companies.
Notably, Xinhua did not even mention the discussion of ending Russia's war against Ukraine between Trump and Xi Jinping.
News of the Trump–Xi Jinping conversation appeared around 3:00 p.m. As Western media wrote, the key topics of the call were expected to be TikTok and a tariff truce between Washington and Beijing.
