China is not a party directly involved in Russia's war against Ukraine. Therefore, Beijing does not have decisive influence over its resolution.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this during a speech at the Munich Security Conference.
"China is not a party directly involved in the conflict. We do not have the final say," Wang Yi said.
According to him, China's role is to facilitate peace negotiations and encourage dialogue between the parties.
The Chinese foreign minister also emphasized that, since the war is taking place on the European continent, Europe has every right to participate in the negotiations.
Could China stop the war in Ukraine?
Previously, the US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, stated that China provides crucial support to Russian aggression in Ukraine. He believes Beijing could end the war with a single phone call to Moscow.
US President's special envoy, Keith Kellogg, also said that if China stopped assisting Russia, the war in Ukraine could end tomorrow.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously claimed that Beijing is not interested in ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
