China supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace and ending the war in Ukraine, The Global Times reports, citing Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning.

In response to a question about the phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding the crisis (how China refers to the war in Ukraine - ed.), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday that China supports all efforts aimed at reaching peace in relation to the Ukraine crisis.

"We support direct dialogue and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and a political solution to the crisis. We hope all parties can reach a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement that is acceptable to all sides through dialogue and negotiation," Mao Ning said.

China's role in Russia's war against Ukraine

Beijing officially voices support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and calls for focusing on the root causes of the war. At the end of last month, the Chinese side called on both Kyiv and Moscow to explore the "roots of the conflict."

Despite close economic ties with Russia, China has repeatedly denied supplying weapons to either side and insists it is not involved in Russia's military operations against Ukraine. At the same time, there is evidence suggesting that Beijing is helping Moscow circumvent Western sanctions, thus indirectly supporting the Kremlin's military campaign.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian, China hopes that Ukraine and Russia will manage to reach a lasting peace agreement that will be acceptable to all parties involved in the war.
