China has once again rejected allegations that it trained Russian troops for the war against Ukraine, dismissing German concerns as "groundless," according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

China denies training Russian troops

During a regular press briefing on July 6, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning was asked to comment on reports regarding China’s alleged training of Russian troops. The question was raised by a correspondent from the German Press Agency.

"Last Thursday, the Chinese ambassador to Germany was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry for an emergency meeting, where officials stated that the focus was on reports regarding the training of Russian soldiers in China. What is the Foreign Ministry’s comment on this matter? What impact will this meeting have on Chinese-German relations?" the journalist asked.

Mao Ning responded that the meeting was an exchange of views on Chinese-German relations and matters of mutual interest.

"As for the reports you mentioned that are causing concern in Germany, we have already made it clear that these reports are groundless and pure slander," the Chinese diplomat stated.

Beijing reiterates call for peace talks

Mao also said China has consistently maintained an "objective and impartial" position on the "Ukraine crisis."

"China supports a political settlement of the crisis and has consistently promoted peace talks in its own way. Germany should assess China's position and role in an objective and rational manner," she said.

Germany summoned China's ambassador in early July following reports that Russian soldiers had undergone military drills in China. Earlier, Reuters reported on the alleged secret training program.

According to Reuters, joint Chinese-Russian military exercises took place at a military facility in Beijing in November 2025. Sources told the agency that Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov personally approved the covert training program for Russian troops in China.
