China could play key role in stopping Russian aggression - Ukraine's Foreign Minister
China could play a pivotal role in ending the war due to Beijing's special relationship with Moscow, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
Bilateral contacts are ongoing in anticipation of the exact date of the Peace Forum in Switzerland. "For example, with China, which could play a key role in ending the war due to its special relationship with Russia," Kuleba said.
China's participation in the Global peace summit
China is considering participating in a peace conference aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, to be organized by neutral Switzerland in the coming months.
Ukraine has already held several meetings under the peace formula at the level of heads of state advisors, with the participation of dozens of countries. The main goal is to attract as many countries as possible to support such an initiative.
In January 2024, Ukraine and Switzerland began preparations for the Global peace summit, which will be held at the level of heads of state.
Last year, Beijing launched a 12-point peace plan for Ukraine but has yet to take significant steps to resolve the conflict, except for participating in peace talks led by the West in Jeddah last summer.
Earlier in March, China's special envoy for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, met with officials in five European capitals, including Moscow and Kyiv.
In recent years, China has strengthened its trade and military ties with Russia as the United States and its allies imposed sanctions on both countries, especially Moscow, for the invasion of Ukraine. The two countries declared a "boundaryless" partnership in February 2022 when Putin visited Beijing just days before the invasion.
