China considers participation in Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland
China is considering participation in a peace conference aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, which neutral Switzerland plans to host in the coming months, according to China's ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shihting, in his interview with Neue Zuercher Zeitung.
"China advocates for the promotion of peaceful negotiations and has always been supportive of this. And we have also presented a strategy for the political resolution of the conflict: it is necessary to respect the territorial sovereignty of all countries and adhere to the UN Charter," he said.
According to him, all parties must work towards ending the war. "We must not allow the crisis to worsen or even get out of control. We are closely following the Ukrainian conference hosted by Switzerland and are considering the possibility of participation," the ambassador added.
Wang Shihting stated that it is necessary "to support Russia and Ukraine in the earliest resumption of direct dialogue in order to gradually de-escalate the situation."
Global peace summit
Ukraine has already organized several meetings under the World Summit formula at the level of heads of state advisers, which were attended by dozens of countries. The main goal is to involve as many countries as possible in supporting such an initiative.
In January 2024, Ukraine and Switzerland began preparations for the Global peace summit, which will be held at the level of heads of state.
In this regard, Switzerland has asked China to participate in a peace conference on Ukraine, which is scheduled to take place this year.
