Child killed, five injured in ammo explosion at home in Ukraine's Kherson region

In a house in the Kherson region, an explosion occurred due to careless handling of ammunition. An 8-year-old boy died as a result of the incident, reports the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
The explosion happened in a private home in the village of Kalynivske, Beryslav district. The cause was an unknown explosive device.
"Unfortunately, as a result of careless handling of ammunition by adults, an 8-year-old boy died," the head of the administration said.
According to Prokudin, two women were also injured. A 36-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction. A 37-year-old woman sustained explosive and traumatic brain injuries, a concussion, and multiple shrapnel wounds to her arms, legs, neck, and chest.
"They were taken to the hospital for medical treatment," he said.
Later, Prokudin reported that three more people were injured due to careless handling of ammunition.
It turned out that two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, suffered mine-explosive injuries and shrapnel wounds.
"They were taken to the hospital in moderate condition. A man born in 1989 was also hospitalized. He was diagnosed with mine-explosive injury. Medical staff are conducting further examinations," explained the head of the administration.
Prokudin also reminded that explosive devices are not toys. He urged people not to try to remove them from the ground alone.
"Do not take it in your hands, do not disassemble it, and do not carry it from place to place. Do not risk your life — your own and your loved ones!" he concluded.
