Cheaper than missile: Brave1 shows how Russian Banderol drone-missiles are intercepted

Ukrainian developers already have technology capable of destroying Russian Banderol missile-drones. One of the systems developed by a Brave1 defense cluster is significantly cheaper than the Banderol itself, according to Brave1.
Ukraine already has systems to counter Banderol
Brave1 reported that one of the systems developed by a participant in the defense cluster is already destroying Russian Banderol drones. At the same time, the cost of such an interception is significantly lower than the cost of the missile-drone itself.
The agency did not disclose the developer’s name, the system’s specifications, or the exact cost of using it. However, it noted that there are already several Ukrainian products capable of countering Banderol. They are expected to be further developed and scaled up to protect Ukrainian cities.

What is Russian Banderol?
The Banderol (S8000) is a Russian jet-powered loitering munition that Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) also describes as a cruise missile. It is a hybrid of a drone and a missile developed by Russian JSC Kronstadt.
The munition is typically launched from a Russian Orion UAV. At the same time, Russia is looking for ways to diversify its deployment methods, including the potential use of ground-based platforms.
Its maximum speed is up to 650 km/h, while its range is 500 km.
In June 2026, Russia used the Banderol against Kyiv for the first time, after which its use against Ukraine became more frequent. Powered by a jet engine, the munition can reach speeds of around 600 km/h and descend to an altitude of about 200 meters before striking its target.
At the same time, the Banderol is not invulnerable to Ukrainian air defenses. The missile-drone has a flight profile similar to that of a cruise missile or jet-powered drone. However, it puts additional strain on air defense systems, aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi told RBC-Ukraine.
