A shift in the enemy’s tactics has been recorded on the front line. Russian forces are moving to cheaper Molniya strike drones, according to Ukrainian Defense Ministry adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov.

A decrease in the use of expensive UAVs

Across all sectors of the line of contact, there has been a decline in the enemy’s use of expensive strike drones.

Instead, the Russian army is increasingly deploying simpler and cheaper Molniya drones.

How Molniya operates

The drones’ video transmission range is supported by powerful VTX transmitters rated at 5–10 watts and the use of directional antennas.

Therefore, there is a need to strengthen electronic warfare capabilities aimed at suppressing video channels.

It is also noted that existing EW systems targeting Molniya control channels are sufficient, but there is a need to expand capabilities for detecting control frequencies.

Broad-spectrum jamming does not produce stable results due to the large number of frequencies in use.

Enemy adaptation and pressure on EW

According to specialists, the enemy has thoroughly studied the characteristics of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems, allowing it to factor in limitations related to signal suppression bandwidth.

In response, it uses frequency hopping in the 300–600 MHz range and above, which reduces control range but complicates countermeasures.

In addition, the mass use of Molniya drones is seen as an attempt to overload Ukrainian air defense.

Ukraine will receive 15 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft systems from Belgium to strengthen its air defense. The equipment will be purchased from a private company, refurbished, and then transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukraine and Spain are expanding defense cooperation, focusing on strengthening air defense systems, supplying long-range munitions, and developing joint drone production.
