Washington has launched a full-scale operation to isolate Iran by sea. By order of President Donald Trump, 15 ships of various types are taking part in the blockade, reports CNN.

Currently, a powerful naval group capable of blocking sea routes is present in the region. The main strike force consists of an aircraft carrier and a large number of missile ships ready to carry out combat missions.

The blockade forces include:

  • Aircraft carrier: USS Abraham Lincoln;
  • 11 destroyers: including Bainbridge, John Finn, Michael Murphy, and others;
  • Amphibious ready group: Tripoli, New Orleans, and Rushmore.

The ships are dispersed across the US Central Command's area of operations. The exact location of each vessel is kept secret for security reasons.

According to the USNI News monitoring service, another powerful aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, is currently in the eastern Mediterranean. It recently underwent repairs in Greece. To join the main blockade group, it would have to pass through the Suez Canal or sail around Africa.

Military analysts note that a blockade of this scale requires constant logistical support. Washington is not commenting on the duration of the operation, but the presence of 11 destroyers indicates the seriousness of its intentions, CNN reports.

What preceded the naval blockade of Iran

The main factor was the failure of the American side in negotiations with Iran in Pakistan. Vice President JD Vance failed to reach an agreement with Tehran on key issues regarding the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of uranium enrichment.

At the same time, Trump himself characterized the negotiations as good. According to him, the parties agreed on many issues.

Trump also publicly warned that in the event of attacks by Iranian armed forces, the US is ready to respond harshly. Any attempts to strike American ships will have serious consequences for Iran, the US leader stated.
