Canadian Prime Minister announces snap elections: Date revealed

On Sunday, Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney will call a snap election for April 28. He said he needed a strong mandate to deal with the threat posed to the economy by Trump's tariffs, Reuters reports.
The news resource writes that although the next election is not due until October 20, Carney hopes to benefit from a significant recovery in his Liberal Party's position in the polls since January, when Trump began threatening Canada and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation.
Speaking to reporters, Carney said that Canada is facing the most significant crisis "of our lifetimes," in particular, due to unjustified trade actions by US President Donald Trump.
"There is still so much to be done to ensure Canada's security. Invest in Canada, build Canada, and unite Canada. That is why I am asking my fellow Canadians for a strong positive mandate. I just asked the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call an election on April 28, and she agreed,” Carney said.
His statement came after the request to hold elections was approved.
Mike Carney now has five weeks to win. Polls show that the Liberals, who have been in power since 2015 and were far behind the official Conservative opposition at the beginning of the year, are now slightly ahead of their rivals.
Canada gets closer to Europe because of Trump
According to Bloomberg, Canada has offered Europe to sign major defense deals and improve the continent's access to minerals. This happened in response to the threats of US President Donald Trump, as well as his rejection of Washington's defense commitments.
