Canada prepares new sanctions against leaders of Hamas group
The Canadian government is preparing a new package of economic sanctions against leaders of the Hamas group and Israelis accused of involvement in violence against settlers in the West Bank, states Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly.
According to her, Canada will impose sanctions on Israeli settlers who incite violence in the West Bank and introduce new sanctions on Hamas leaders.
"We're working actively on it. I'm making sure that while I'm in Ukraine, the work is being done in Ottawa and I look forward to doing an announcement soon," said the Canadian Foreign Minister.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that he was considering imposing sanctions on extremist settlers in the West Bank after the U.S. took similar action last week.
