Canada will impose a 25% tariff on American goods worth a total of 155 billion Canadian dollars. The measures will affect food products and important minerals, states Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a press conference.

According to him, the Canadian tariffs will apply to beer, wine, food products, and household appliances imported from the US.

The Canadian government is also considering imposing tariffs on critical minerals.

Justin Trudeau stated that he has been trying to negotiate with US President Donald Trump since his inauguration. He hopes to have a conversation with the White House leader soon.

US-Canada tariff war

On Saturday, February 1, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports, as well as a 10% tariff on goods from China. The restrictions will take effect on February 4.

The plan also includes a 10% tariff on energy products from Canada.

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised immediate retaliatory measures if the Trump administration imposed the tariffs.
