Can you sleep with jewelry on? Experts reveal hidden danger

Many people don't take off their jewelry even before going to sleep, not realizing that this habit can lead to problems - both for you and for the jewelry itself.
RBC-Ukraine asked jewelers from the Strong&Precious foundation to explain why.
Risk of damaging the jewelry
While sleeping, we move and turn over, which creates additional pressure on the delicate parts of the jewelry. Chains can get tangled or break, rings can deform, and stones can loosen or even fall out.
Health risks
The hard parts of jewelry can press against the skin, scratch, or even cause micro-injuries. Allergic reactions to metals can also occur during prolonged contact.
Loss of shine
If you don’t remove jewelry while showering, washing your hands, or sleeping, a thin layer of soap, cream, or skincare products accumulates on its surface. This gradually dulls the shine of the stones and metal. Gold, silver, or platinum jewelry can lose its shine, and you’ll have to clean them more often or even have them professionally polished.
When to take jewelry off
Jewelers recommend taking off jewelry before going to sleep, washing hands, showering, or exercising. To maintain their shine, occasionally wash them in warm water with a drop of mild dishwashing detergent and a soft brush or use a special cleaning solution for jewelry.
For professional cleaning, consult a jeweler. Be especially careful with pearls, as they are very sensitive to external influences.
